General Board elections question

I have a general question

If a current board member whose term does not expire for another year wants to run for a higher position on the Board, does that person need to resign his current board seat in order to run for the higher office? When does that person need to resign?

The Board member does not have to resign, per RONR.  But double check the By-laws of the organization to make sure that the By-laws do not require a resignation to run for a higher position.

As, per RONR, the Board member could hold both positions, if elected, simultaneously.  In other words, if the Board member is elected to the higher position, he/she does not have to resign from the other position.
