Guest Liz Willson Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:07 PM Report Share Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:07 PM When a Board member resigns, how are unexpired terms handled when less than 1/2 of the term has been served? What about when more than 1/2 of the term has been served?
Chris Harrison Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:13 PM Report Share Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:13 PM RONR p. 448 says, "In filling vacancies for unexpired terms, an officer who has served more than half a term in an office is considered to have served a full term." Guest Edgar Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:29 PM Report Share Posted July 21, 2014 at 04:29 PM But note that Mr. Harrison's citation applies only if there are term limits (i.e. limits to the number of terms a person may serve, either consecutively or in total). The amount of time served would generally have no effect on how the vacancy is filled. The person filling the vacancy generally serves until the term is complete (or, sometimes, until the next regular elections).
