Guest Sally Posted July 30, 2014 at 08:41 PM Report Share Posted July 30, 2014 at 08:41 PM I was just informed by a newly elected officer that you do not need a motion or second to accept minutes from the previous meeting. Is this correct?

Guest Arlene Avent Posted July 31, 2014 at 08:53 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 08:53 PM What is the procedure for correcting the minutes of a previous meeting? Is it done before motion to accept the minutes or after?
Edgar Guest Posted July 31, 2014 at 09:31 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 09:31 PM When the secretary submits the draft minutes for approval they can be "corrected" by unanimous consent (if the correction isn't controversial) or by a majority vote (if there's some disagreement). Once the minutes have been approved they can only be changed ("amended") by adopting a motion to Amend Something Previously Adopted (ASPA). This would require either a two-thirds vote, the affirmative vote of a majority of the entire membership, or, with previous notice, a majority vote. In other words, the correction of unapproved minutes is preferable to the amendment of approved minutes.
