Guest Sarah J. Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:39 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 03:39 PM A board member has been bullying the director of our organization with incessant E-mails, condescending remarks in front of other people, and demanding things be done his way.I would like to ask how to pursue a method to curtail this behavior. he has unilaterally decided his ways are the best and has bullied committee chairpersons as well. The board president has been advised of this behavior..Should the president be the only one to handle this or should it be brought in front of the entire B.O.T.? Our director is at her wits end, and may resign if this does not stop..

Guest Guest Posted July 31, 2014 at 05:00 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 05:00 PM I had reviewed FAQ 20 as per RONR.I was hopeful that a confrontation by our board president might defuse the situation first..if this is advised, before taking the steps to remove him from the board.. Timothy Posted July 31, 2014 at 05:38 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 05:38 PM It is always a good idea to have one or two people talk to the person before bringing everyone in on the situation, but that would be in an unofficial capacity. Edgar Guest Posted July 31, 2014 at 06:21 PM Report Share Posted July 31, 2014 at 06:21 PM The board president has been advised of this behavior..Should the president be the only one to handle this . . . No. The entire board should oppose any inappropriate behavior on the part of one of its members. I also suspect there may be some gender issues here since the alleged bully is (apparently) male and the president is (apparently) female. Give your president the support she deserves. Hint: One thing most bullies can't stand is being embarrassed. Their skin is usually very thin.

Steven Britton Posted August 3, 2014 at 03:24 PM Report Share Posted August 3, 2014 at 03:24 PM I would advise you to review - that is double check - your organization's bylaws carefully. Many times they afford rights within the organization to the executive director position.

The important thing here is that she was hired by the Board, not by one member of the board.
