Guest Laurie Posted August 1, 2014 at 04:22 PM Report Share Posted August 1, 2014 at 04:22 PM I'm involved with a private club and currently our election of officers is coming up someone that is running for office is a felon. We go by the Roberts Rules and seem to find in the book were a felon can't run for office. Any help on this matter is appreciated
Timothy Posted August 1, 2014 at 05:07 PM Report Share Posted August 1, 2014 at 05:07 PM It doesn't make sense for RONR to say that felons can't run for office. RONR would apply to an organization made up of felons just as much as it would a organization of saints (or felons who are saints, for that matter). But if your organization wishes to prevent felons from being in office, you can do so by including that in your bylaws.

Rev Ed Posted August 1, 2014 at 09:37 PM Report Share Posted August 1, 2014 at 09:37 PM If you don't want a felon elected, nominate another candidate and get support to vote for the other felon. It's called democracy.
