By Laws wording to remove an officer including the President

I am tasked with rewriting the by laws for our county Horse Council. Could you please suggest wording for a clause to remove officers?

Suggestions for cause to remove officers. 2/3 vote seems to be standard. Are there either alternatives? Thank you

RONR offers a couple of suggestions:

1. If the desire is to permit officers to be removed from officer only with cause, the bylaws should state something like "officers shall hold office for a term of one year and until their successors are elected." Pay special attention to the word "and" because RONR treats that as important. But since most people don't realize that, the bylaws should also include the statement, "Officers may be removed from office for cause by disciplinary proceedings as provided in the parliamentary authority."

2. If the desire is to permit officers to be removed from officer at any time, the bylaws should state something like "officers shall hold office for a term of one year or until their successors are elected." Pay special attention to the word "or" because RONR treats that as important. But since most people don't realize that, the bylaws should also include the statement, "Officers may be removed from office at the pleasure of the the membership as provided in the parliamentary authority."

In the second case, the requirements for removing someone from office is the same as for the motion to rescind or amend something previously adopted. That is "a two-thirds vote, a majority vote when previous notice has been given, or a vote of a majority of the entire membership." There is no need to put that wording in the bylaws because it is already in RONR. But if you want to use something other than two-thirds vote or to always require two-thirds vote, you will need to.

Agreeing with Tim but for emphasis....

DON'T be tempted to go beyond the reference to RONR, you will get into trouble (eventually) if you do.
