Special Meeting

If a special meeting is called, following the by-laws of the club, and the purpose stated for the meeting includes voting on something, can a motion made at that meeting override the petitioned purpose of the meeting? So if a special meeting were called to vote on something, can someone make a motion at that meeting to wait to vote?

Sure. Most meetings are called so that decisions can be made and most decisions are made by voting. But members can't be compelled to vote so the assembly (the members present but not any one member) can choose to consider the question later. For example, the question could be assigned to a committee for further research.

That said, special meetings are typically called to consider an urgent matter that can't wait until the next regular meeting.

Well maybe let me rephrase that. Is there an 'end all' motion that can be made to make the vote happen at that meeting, without postponing it?

Either Previous Question or certain forms of Limit Debate could work. The latter isn't exactly foolproof, but it would make it more difficult to postpone the motion. Either of these motions requires a 2/3 vote for adoption.
