nominations

a nomination committee was formed.  A few officer positions had a few members nominated for each office.  The committee presented a slate of names for upcoming elections and each position only had one name for each position - even though several positions had a few people interested in an individual office.

Shouldn't the committee have presented all the names interested in each office?

This slate with a singular name for each position will be recorded in the minutes which will be sent to the general membership[ prior to the elections the following monthly meeting.  How do we account for the names of the people that were not mentioned for the positions they were seeking by the comnmittee?

Do those people have to be nominated or nominate themselves prior to the elections of each individual office one by one on the election night?

Thanks.

No. Although the nominating committee can select more than one candidate for a particular office, it's generally expected to select the person it considers to be "the best" candidate. If the nominating committee simply "rubber stamped" all interested candidates there'd be no need for a nominating committee.

You don't. And the selections of the nominating committee do not constitute a "slate". They're individual candidates for individual offices. The term "slate" is more appropriately applied to the candidates of a political party.

They don't have to be but they can be. Also note that members are free to "write in" votes for candidates who weren't nominated. And you can either elect officers one at a time or all at the same time (as we do on Election Day in November).

I agree with Mr. Guest.  For a citation in Robert's Rules about the role of the nominating committee, see RONR 11th ed page 433, particularly lines22 - 28:  "Although It is not common for the nominating committee to nominate more than one candidate for any office, the committee can do so unless the bylaws prohibit it.  It is usually not sound to require the committee to nominate more than one candidate for each office. . . . ."

In addition to allowing write in candidates as Mr. Guest stated, nominations from the floor should also be allowed.  RONR 11th ed, page 435, lines 9 - 12.
