Guest guest Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:34 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:34 PM If a BoD makes a motion, when is there discussion of the subject by the board at an open meeting? Was it to have happened before the motion? Is there time post motion and pre vote? Also if ,for example, another BoD wants to change the order of prior motion from sequence of events 1, 2 & 3 to say 1, 3, 2 &4, how is that best accomplished? Transpower Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:53 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:53 PM RONR (11th ed.), p. 386, ll. 6-8 requires that there be a motion on the floor before there can be discussion.
Edgar Guest Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:58 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 02:58 PM In the usual sequence, a member makes a motion, another member seconds it (not required at meetings of "small" boards), the motion is debated, perhaps the motion is amended, then it's put to a vote (either as originally stated or as amended). Gary Novosielski Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:38 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:38 PM I'm not sure what you mean when you say that the board makes a motion. A single member, not "the board," makes a motion at a board meeting. Or are you talking about a different situation?
Edgar Guest Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:45 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:45 PM I'm not sure what you mean when you say that the board makes a motion. Well, that's not exactly what was said: If a BoD makes a motion . . . I took that to mean, when a (board of) director makes a motion . . .
Guest guest Posted September 16, 2014 at 10:25 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 10:25 PM Yes, when I stated BoD, it is a Director. Thanks for the information.
