Guest Erik Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:49 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:49 PM I am part of a very small union. We do not have anything in our by laws in reference to a certain number of members to attend a meeting to make it official. Can anyone help me with this topic. How would I recommend implementing something like this?
Gary Novosielski Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:58 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 04:58 PM If your bylaws don't have a value for the required quorum, then the default value is more than half of the registered members. If that's what you want, you can do nothing. To set some other number, or some other fraction, you would need to amend the bylaws.
Edgar Guest Posted September 16, 2014 at 05:11 PM Report Share Posted September 16, 2014 at 05:11 PM We do not have anything in our by laws in reference to a certain number of members to attend a meeting to make it official. What you're probably asking about is the quorum requirement. That's the minimum number of members that must be present in order for any substantive business to be conducted (and, as Mr. Novosielski noted, the default requirement is a majority of the membership). But a meeting can be "official" even without a quorum. It's just that you won't be able to do very much.
