Kim Goldsworthy Posted September 18, 2014 at 05:01 PM Report Share Posted September 18, 2014 at 05:01 PM Is a failed motion recorded in the minutes?Main motions which were defeated?Yes. Secondary* motions which where defeated? No. [RONR 11th ed. p. 470]**** Footnote:"Secondary" motion classes:1. Subsidiary2. Privileged3. Incidental[RONR 11th ed. p. 59]*** Example:If a member moves "to amend" the main motion, or if a member moves "to postpone" the main motion, or if a member moves to "refer to committee" the main motion, and if those motions are defeated, then, per page 470, those defeated secondary motions are not to appear in the minutes' final draft.(The secretary must write down those motions dynamically in the meeting, in anticipation of the motions being adopted. But if the motions are defeated, the typed-up final draft of the minutes are to exclude those defeated motions.)
