changing agm date

Recommended Posts

we have had an agm date set for months but due to labour issues in our area, we may not be able to hold the meeting as scheduled.  we also had posted notices that we would be voting on our bylaws at this upcoming meeting.

can we change our meeting date by posting notices and can we preserve the notice of bylaw changes by posting notices as well?

thank you in advance for your feed back.

How did "we" set the date in the first place? And who is the "we" who wants to change it?

The date of an annual meeting is often fixed in the bylaws (e.g. "the third Wednesday in October"). That can't be changed without amending the bylaws (though the place and time might vary).

Edited to add: One recourse would be for a few (but not too many!) members to meet at the scheduled time and then "adjourn" (i.e. continue) the meeting to a later, more convenient, date.

well the we was the quorum at the last meeting in may.  we might not be able to meet due to labour issues preventing anyone from entering the school we are working in.  our bylaws dont have an exact date for each meeting just how many a year.  we need 7 for a quorum,  would meeting at the previously set time/place outside the school be acceptable for adjournment.

Yes. While this is something of a formality, if you are locked out of your building, then you should hold the meeting outside in a location where people who might try to go to the meeting can see you. This provides a means by which you can inform people who might not have heard where the adjourned meeting will be held.
