Guest T Graham Posted September 22, 2014 at 05:18 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 at 05:18 PM Can someone who did not attend the previous meeting either move or second a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting they did not attend? Edgar Guest Posted September 22, 2014 at 05:33 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 at 05:33 PM Yes, but the approval of minutes should not be put to a vote (since not approving them is not an option). After any corrections have made (and the corrections are subject to a vote if there's any disagreement), the chair should just declare the minutes approved (as corrected). Edited to add: And all members may offer, and vote on, corrections whether they were present at the meeting in question or not.

Right! "It should be noted that a member's absence from the meeting for which minutes are being approved does not prevent the member from participating in their correction or approval." g40 Posted September 22, 2014 at 06:03 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 at 06:03 PM There are several very relevant kinds of corrections to the minutes that might be offered by a member not in attendance. One would be if there was something in the minutes stating that he/she was there, such as making a motion. Another might be if the minutes contained what was said, rather than what was done. Gary Novosielski Posted September 22, 2014 at 06:10 PM Report Share Posted September 22, 2014 at 06:10 PM Can someone who did not attend the previous meeting either move or second a motion to approve the minutes of the meeting they did not attend? Absolutely. Even considering that such a motion is entirely unnecessary.
