Guest gpeastwood Posted September 24, 2014 at 01:19 AM Report Share Posted September 24, 2014 at 01:19 AM If an amendment on a main motion is not adopted and the assembly is now again debating the original main motion, can a member of the assembly now move to postpone indefinitely? Kim Goldsworthy Posted September 24, 2014 at 02:36 AM Report Share Posted September 24, 2014 at 02:36 AM Yes. An amendment failed, you say.So the immediately pending question is the main motion. Right? While a main motion is pending, any subsidiary motion (such as "To Postpone Indefinitely") is in order.Whatever previous subsidiary motions failed, their failure won't interfere with a different subsidiary motion being moved. Gary Novosielski Posted September 24, 2014 at 12:44 PM Report Share Posted September 24, 2014 at 12:44 PM If an amendment on a main motion is not adopted and the assembly is now again debating the original main motion, can a member of the assembly now move to postpone indefinitely? Yes. Whether any amendments were offered, adopted, rejected, whatever, does not affect your ability to move to postpone (in either definite or indefinite form). Dan Honemann Posted September 24, 2014 at 01:47 PM Report Share Posted September 24, 2014 at 01:47 PM Yes. Whether any amendments were offered, adopted, rejected, whatever, does not affect your ability to move to postpone (in either definite or indefinite form). I'm afraid this response is rather misleading, since it implies that if a motion to amend is offered and is pending, a motion to postpone indefinitely will be in order. gpeastwoo Posted September 25, 2014 at 06:38 PM Report Share Posted September 25, 2014 at 06:38 PM I certainly understand that to postpone indefinitely can not be moved once the motion to amend has been moved and is under consideration. Another question related to Gary's answer... if the motion to postpone was not moved prior to the amendment being adopted, can the motions to postpone indefinitely then be moved to postpone the amended main motion?
