Guest dave williams Posted October 4, 2014 at 09:02 PM Report Share Posted October 4, 2014 at 09:02 PM A small non profit organization has it stated in the bylaws that the Financial Secretary shall be paid $30 per month for faithful service. Can that be increased at any regular monthly meeting by a simple majority vote?If not and it is done, what can be done other than constantly voting on this issue? Timothy Posted October 4, 2014 at 09:18 PM Report Share Posted October 4, 2014 at 09:18 PM You would need to do whatever is required to change your bylaws, so presumably, no. If it is done anyway, then the proper thing to do is to raise a point of order, since it violates the bylaws.
Transpower Posted October 5, 2014 at 01:39 PM Report Share Posted October 5, 2014 at 01:39 PM It's never a good idea to put in specific dollar amounts in the bylaws.

To change the amount, you'll need to amend the bylaws (by the appropriate procedure). A better idea is to amend the bylaws to remove the amount and say something like "an amount as may, from time to time, be set by the membership" or name some other body authorized to change the rate of pay. That way it can more easily be changed in the future.
