Guest linda shorter Posted October 10, 2014 at 05:36 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2014 at 05:36 PM Some class members have come to the realization that some of our bylaws were written with an agenda from one of the members who really controlled the decisions on these bylaws. When youhave these type of troubling conflicting problems, we want to go over each one. Does a new bylawcommittee have to be elected or should the body discuss which ones need changing? Some arewritten with questions/need clearing up. Thanks for your response.
Richard Brown Posted October 10, 2014 at 05:52 PM Report Share Posted October 10, 2014 at 05:52 PM You can go about it pretty much any way you want to, but a bylaws committee is usually a good idea and a good starting point. If you take that route, the members of the committee should probably solicit opinions and comments from other members.

Thanks for your response.Do not hash out the details in a regular meeting, wasting valuable time of the whole body on "Thinking out loud" and "Brain storming".It might take hours. I recommend using a committtee, regardless what you call the committee.Let the committee do the work of laying out "how bad" the bylaws are.Let their report spell it all out.E.g., "Articles One and Two are good. Article Three is so bad it needs to be rewritten completely. Article Four needs tweaking, but can wait until Article Three is straightened out. [...]" When the committee does give its report, laying out every article with its recommended course of action, THEN the full body can cherry pick what it wants to do.
