Guest Eric Posted October 15, 2014 at 08:26 PM Report Share Posted October 15, 2014 at 08:26 PM I am a president of a sports organization and we have our upcoming board elections. One of our board members who holds a position in addition coaches 2 teams. There has been too much conflict over the past few months and now this person when requested to hold a meeting is refusing. My biggest problem I face is for board approval of removal for this position because it will be voted on as a popularity vote as to not seeing what is best for the organization as a whole. So my question is as board president if no one runs for the position can I make a decision to remove the coordinator and appoint it at a later date ? If a person who would be great for this position doesn't want to run for the position because its a known fact they will not win because it would be based off nothing but a popularity vote but has the credential's to be great, How can I get around this without a board vote ? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but elections are popularity votes. You get around this by becoming a dictator. Ask Kim Jong-un for advice. But don't wait too long. Kim Goldsworthy Posted October 16, 2014 at 01:05 AM Report Share Posted October 16, 2014 at 01:05 AM I am a president of a sports organization ... How can I get around this without a board vote ? Using only Robert's Rules of Order, the answer is simple:NOTHING. Presidents don't get super powers just because the board backs a popular coach.
