Guest Penny Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:04 AM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:04 AM If the membership approves the agenda, does a 2/3 or majority have to approve taking business out of order or can you approve it subject to change? Thus happens frequently at our convention as we gave no control over visitors showing up on time. Maybe we should not adopt the agenda at all? Kim Goldsworthy Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:11 AM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:11 AM If the membership approves the agenda, does a 2/3 or majority have to approve taking business out of order or can you approve it subject to change? Right. Either motion below will allow you to take up busienss out of its original flow: (a.) Suspend the rules (for the purpose of taking up an item early)(b.) Amend Somthing Previously Adopted, i.e,. amend the agenda (for the purpose of moving items around, up/down). In both cases, a two-thirds vote is the threshold necessary for adoption. If no agenda is adopted at the top of the meeting, then you don't need #b at all.
Josh Martin Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:54 AM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 12:54 AM If the membership approves the agenda, does a 2/3 or majority have to approve taking business out of order or can you approve it subject to change? Thus happens frequently at our convention as we gave no control over visitors showing up on time. Maybe we should not adopt the agenda at all? Not adopting an agenda at all wouldn't really help matters. The assembly would still be subject to the standard order of business, so suspending the rules would often still be necessary. Hieu H. Huynh Posted December 5, 2014 at 04:36 PM Report Share Posted December 5, 2014 at 04:36 PM tiki62, please post a new question as a new topic instead of adding to an existing thread. Think of this thread as Guest_Penny's thread. This way, the answers to your question will not be confused with the answers to the question that Guest_Penny had, especially if they're completely different situations, and Guest_Penny comes back with follow up questions to the original topic. Guest Victor Bertotti Posted December 6, 2014 at 04:42 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2014 at 04:42 PM Can you debate an agendized item before a motion is made. we make a motion, require a second before we can debate the item. then we debate the motion, call for question and then ask for a vote. what say you. thank you

Guest Rene' Brown Posted December 6, 2014 at 06:05 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2014 at 06:05 PM Once an agenda has had corrections or amendments made, a motion to approve, then a second, does it require discussion or do you simply vote? Guest Nancy N. Posted December 6, 2014 at 07:24 PM Report Share Posted December 6, 2014 at 07:24 PM Wow. What an impressive onslaught. I don't think I've quite seen so concerted an assault on the website forum since the carborundum salesman ten years ago. Plaudits on holding the bastions, men. And especially well-done on "please" all over the place (although one might expect little less from parliamentarians).
