Guest Dawn Posted December 3, 2014 at 04:43 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 04:43 PM I am trying to find the answer to the following question, and would appreciate any input or information you may have. "Where did Robert state that his rules are good for just about any organization, except a church"?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted December 3, 2014 at 04:53 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 04:53 PM That statement is not true. RONR 11th ed., p. 21 and p. 346 mention quorum requirements "in many church congregations".

jstackpo Posted December 3, 2014 at 05:53 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 05:53 PM You might ask back: "Where did you hear that RONR wasn't good for churches?" RONR is good for ANYTHING (including e-mail "meetings"). I've used (formal) RONR at family dinners -- as a "teach the kids" device to be sure, not as a discipline method. Josh Martin Posted December 3, 2014 at 08:00 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 08:00 PM "Where did Robert state that his rules are good for just about any organization, except a church"?Nowhere. Part of the reason for General Robert's study in parliamentary law, which led to the writing of Robert's Rules of Order, was due to his experience as the presiding officer of a church assembly. So the idea that he would say something like this is nonsense.
Kim Goldsworthy Posted December 3, 2014 at 08:53 PM Report Share Posted December 3, 2014 at 08:53 PM I am trying to find the answer to the following question, and would appreciate any input or information you may have. "Where did Robert state that his rules are good for just about any organization, except a church"?Oh! The irony! Henry Martyn Robert, the original author, drafted his modest handbook in 1876 because of the horrid meeting he had chaired as an inexperienced presiding officer . . . -- ..(wait for it).. IN A BAPTIST CHURCH.
