Guest Lauren Posted December 13, 2014 at 05:38 AM Report Share Posted December 13, 2014 at 05:38 AM Our by laws state the board positions include a chair, financial officer, recording secretary and additional board members to a maximum of 12 board members. No one was willing to take the chair position when an individual, the chair, resigned. Two members of the board volunteered as co chairs for each meeting. They also co chaired the AGM together.1. Is this position in violation of the by laws?2. Can both act as chair in each meeting? At the AGM?

Furthermore, even in assemblies which have co-chairs, it is generally the case that only one person acts as chair at any given time, since trying to do otherwise is bound to end poorly. Rev Ed Posted December 13, 2014 at 06:13 AM Report Share Posted December 13, 2014 at 06:13 AM 1. Is this position in violation of the by laws? Based on what you have stated, yes. But only the organization can truly interpret its own By-laws. 2. Can both act as chair in each meeting? At the AGM? No, only one person can do the job at a time, and RONR frowns on Co-Chairmen anyway because of this.

Thanks for pointing it out!! I had never seen it....perhaps because I was a member only of NAP in 2009 but not AIP. I've re-joined AIP since then, in part so I can receive their Parliamentary Journal and get to read the outstanding articles by yourself, Jonathan Jacobs and others. I hope you don't mind us sharing it when we feel it is appropriate.
