Guest Lois Posted December 14, 2014 at 05:48 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2014 at 05:48 PM What are the rules when you have an officer running in a board position and no one is running against them? When the term is up and the general membership, including employees of the organization vote, and the outcome could be that the No votes outnumber the Yes votes, does it really matter since the person did not have anyone running against them? The votes are electronically done through Survey Monkey. The organizational bylaws do not state what to do in this situation.
jstackpo Posted December 14, 2014 at 06:07 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2014 at 06:07 PM A "Yes/No" choice is not proper on an election ballot. See pp. 414 & 430. Just put the name of the single candidate on the ballot plus a blank line for write-in votes. If your Survey service doesn't allow write-in votes, find a service that does. The winner has to get a majority of the votes cast, which will be no problem if there are no write-in votes.
Edgar Guest Posted December 14, 2014 at 06:16 PM Report Share Posted December 14, 2014 at 06:16 PM What are the rules when you have an officer running in a board position and no one is running against them? If your bylaws don't require a ballot vote, the chair can declare the sole nominee elected "by acclamation". If your bylaws require a ballot vote, do they permit absentee voting (e.g. electronically)? RONR doesn't.
