Richard Brown Posted December 28, 2014 at 06:22 PM Report Share Posted December 28, 2014 at 06:22 PM A "committee with power" is a committee which is authorized to actually carry something out, rather than to just make a recommendation. For example, the New Year's Party Committee could be a committee that is charged only with making recommendations for the New Year's party, or it could be given the power to actually put on the party, in which case it is a "committee with power". Hieu H. Huynh Posted December 28, 2014 at 06:52 PM Report Share Posted December 28, 2014 at 06:52 PM The committee can be given "full power" to act for the society in a specific case and can be authorized to spend money or even add to its own membership. (RONR 11th ed., p. 172, ll. 12-14) Exactly what a "committee with power would mean for bridge club committees" would depend on your organization's rules and how these committees got their "power". Gary c Tesser Posted December 29, 2014 at 12:01 PM Report Share Posted December 29, 2014 at 12:01 PM .... And, as Mr Huynh said. Or, the Supplies or Facilities Committee could report that, after the last tournament, a few tiles were found missing, particularly, oddly, some Cracks and Bams, and the committee recommends that the tiles be replaced; but, with power, the committee could be authorized to replace the missing tiles on its own.__________N.B. I just noticed "found missing," but I can't bear to change it.
