Guest Randall Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:34 PM Report Share Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:34 PM If the presiding officer orders for a vote to be taken by roll instead of the usual method used at our meetings to raise the voting placards to be counted, and after a point of order is made informing the presiding officer that a majority vote is required to permit it, what can be done if the presiding officer insists that he wants each vote to be recorded since the vote is of great importance. Does he have this discretion to violate RONR, and if not, is appeal the only option?
jstackpo Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:57 PM Report Share Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:57 PM The chair does not have that discretion -- taking a roll call vote is a decision by majority vote. If this happens again, raise a point of order, followed by an appeal if the chair rules against your point. You could move to censure the chair if he/she persists in his misbehavior. Edgar Guest Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:58 PM Report Share Posted January 1, 2015 at 03:58 PM The chair could even be replaced. Temporarily or permanently.
