Guest Levi Harris Posted January 7, 2015 at 06:29 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 at 06:29 PM If an assembly calls an executive session, who has the authority to invite guests to that session? Any member? A majority of members? The chair?
Richard Brown Posted January 7, 2015 at 06:32 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 at 06:32 PM The assembly (general membership, board, etc) that is meeting in executive session has the authority, by majority vote, to invite guests (or to approve guests invited by the chairman or a member). Edited to add: The assembly has the final word, not the chairman or an individual member.

Guest Barbara Loehnert Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:03 PM Does a sustaining member have the authority to speak at a board meeting. Our By-Laws state that a sustaining member may not vote; however, does not address speaking. What does RR state about this? Thank you. Barbara Loehnert RONR doesn't say anything at all about "sustaining members." Whatever rights such members have or don't have will need to be determined by reference to the rules which establish such a membership.
Richard Brown Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:14 PM Report Share Posted January 7, 2015 at 09:14 PM Barbara, it would be best if you would post your question as a new topic, even if it is similar to an existing topic. Think of this thread as Levi Harris' thread. While you are at it, you might explain what a "sustaining member" is. It is not a term used in RONR. Barbara, it would be best if you would post your question as a new topic . . . Wasn't this already asked, and answered, here?
