Guest Michael Ierardi Posted January 11, 2015 at 02:48 AM Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 at 02:48 AM We have a meeting scheduled which was duly posted in advance for the appropriate period of time as specified in the bylaws. However, due to flooding the day before the meeting at the originally planned location, the meeting must be moved to an alternate location. Are there any steps that need to be taken? Does the meeting need to be cancelled until proper notice of the new location can be made? Do we need to start the meeting at the original location and then take a vote to move to another location? Chris Harrison Posted January 11, 2015 at 03:21 AM Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 at 03:21 AM Does the meeting need to be cancelled until proper notice of the new location can be made? There is no mechanism under RONR to cancel an already scheduled meeting. Do we need to start the meeting at the original location and then take a vote to move to another location?Yes. See RONR pp. 242-247 for details. Hieu H. Huynh Posted January 11, 2015 at 03:24 AM Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 at 03:24 AM RONR does not address cancelling meetings, so any such provisions would need to be in your bylaws. If possible, some members could start the meeting at the original location and then set up an adjourned meeting, This new meeting is a continuation of the originally planned meeting. Setting an adjourned meeting (by using the motion to Fix the Time to Which to Adjourn) is one of the actions that could be done in the absence of a quorum. Transpower Posted January 11, 2015 at 02:42 PM Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 at 02:42 PM Also: RONR (11th ed.), p. 244, ll. 21-23: "Unlike a special meeting, an adjourned meeting does not require notice, although it is desirable to give such notice if feasible."
