Executive Members

Not in RONR, because it has nothing to say about family members being on an executive board or serving in any other capacity.

Whether to have people who are related on an executive board is up to the people doing the appointing or electing.... unless there is a prohibition in the bylaws.

No Mr. Brown, they were just put in place, in five years there has never been an election.  I am the chair of the Bylaws committee and trying to learn as much as I can.  There is too much family on the executive board and we have had unaccounted funds missing and I would hate to have to call the police in the midst of our next meeting.  I know when it is all said and done it's up to the members to vote first who is on the executive board.  We pay dues every month and our money is used for things that have never been tabled or voted upon.

How were the officers "just put in place"?  Does your organization have bylaws?  Do those bylaws provide for elections?  It is up to the membership to insist that the rules are followed.  I suggest that if you don't already have it that you get a copy of RONR (The Right Book)  http://www.robertsrules.com/book.html and that you and all members who are interested in doing things the right way also get a copy of RONR in Brief:  http://www.robertsrules.com/inbrief.html

The membership has ultimate control  of the organization, not the president.

If this organization has no bylaws, then it seems your bylaws committee needs to get busy post-haste and come up with a set of bylaws!

Yes, sir. I volunteered for the bylaw committee.  I have four others working with me.  We are amending them and we all five have the 11th edition of the Ro. Their original bylaws were not adhered to, because they were copied and pasted from someone else's and not followed.  We are trying.  We use the RONR as a reference, but can't fine everything, so that is why I am asking and I thank you.

Why not become a member of this humble forum? No salesman will call.

And it's MUCH easier to use the forum as a member as well as having additional bells and whistles available to members.  The two biggest advantages are no longer having to fool with those blasted captchas when posting and the private messaging feature available only to members.

btw, it doesn't matter where your current bylaws came from.  If they were adopted by your organization, they are your current bylaws and should be followed until amended.

As was originally noted, there is no prohibition in RONR against members of the board being related to each other.

I'm far more concerned about the fact that the President appointed the Treasurer and the other members of the board were "just put in place," by some method which is not yet clear, and that there has not been an election in the past five years. None of this is at all proper unless specified by the bylaws.
