Guest Guest Posted January 19, 2015 at 02:04 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 02:04 AM May a motion be made to elect two officers with a single motion and if so, can appointment to a particular committee also be included?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted January 19, 2015 at 02:42 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 02:42 AM I suppose this could be done. Whether such a motion would be in order would depend on other details. Even if this motion was in order, any member could demand separate consideration and vote on the different parts of the motion.
Richard Brown Posted January 19, 2015 at 04:10 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 04:10 AM I agree with Hieu, but I think whether you can "appoint" someone to a committee in the same motion as "electing" two officers would depend, at least in part, on who or which body has the power to appoint the committee members. If the assembly has the power to make that appointment, then I assume it can be done in the same motion as the motion to elect two officers, but it is a rather awkward procedure. However, if the bylaws or the motion which created the committee specify that the president shall appoint the members, then it would not be in order for the assembly to usurp this power. Edgar Guest Posted January 19, 2015 at 06:31 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2015 at 06:31 AM May a motion be made to elect two officers with a single motion . . . Elections usually (though not necessarily) take place by ballot vote, in which case multiple offices are often included on the same ballot.
