gmarshpchef Posted January 21, 2015 at 01:04 AM Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 at 01:04 AM I'm the secretary for a small non-profit organization. If the minutes of the previous mo. & a treasurer's report has been printed in the newsletter, can the president ask for discussion/corrections, then state 'minutes will be approved as printed (or corrected)' instead of having a motion/second/vote; & likewise with treasurer report. If statement, 'accept as printed...' is acceptable, where is reference to such in RRO?? thanks
Hieu H. Huynh Posted January 21, 2015 at 12:52 PM Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 at 12:52 PM The minutes are approved without any formal vote. Corrections could be voted on. Only the secretary's copy is the official copy of the minutes. (see RONR 11th ed., pp. 354-355 and 473-475) It is not proper to accept the treasurer's report. Instead, it is the auditor's report that is accepted. (pp. 479-480) Whether to have the official copies printed in a newsletter is up to your organization to decide. Gary Novosielski Posted January 21, 2015 at 01:33 PM Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 at 01:33 PM It seems potentially unwise to have what is only an unapproved draft of the minutes printed in the newsletter before any corrections have been considered. But the president is correct, if there are no corrections to the draft, to declare the minutes approved as printed. The only way to object to the approval of minutes is to offer a correction. Rev Ed Posted January 21, 2015 at 07:49 PM Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 at 07:49 PM No vote would normally be made on the Treasurer's Report unless it is to be sent to the Auditor, or if it contains a recommendation of some sort.
Dan Honemann Posted January 21, 2015 at 08:03 PM Report Share Posted January 21, 2015 at 08:03 PM No vote would normally be made on the Treasurer's Report unless it is to be sent to the Auditor, or if it contains a recommendation of some sort. No vote is taken on the treasurer's report even if it is to be sent to an auditor. A vote is taken on adopting the auditor's report.
