Guest Guest Posted April 23, 2015 at 11:26 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2015 at 11:26 PM Once an agenda with specific talking points by each member has been established for a regular scheduled meeting, is it possible for the board to make a motion to bring up open discussion first.... and deviate from the agenda? Secondly, who sets the time limit for the meeting? Does the board have authority to make a motion to go as long as needed or to reconvene to a different meeting room to continue the meeting? Edgar Guest Posted April 23, 2015 at 11:32 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2015 at 11:32 PM For agendas, see FAQ #14. The assembly (in this case that means the board members present) decides when the board meeting will end and/or whether to continue the board meeting at a new time and/or in a new location. By the way, since we're talking about a board meeting, only board members have a say in what happens. Members of the organization who are not board members have no parliamentary rights at all. I understand re the non board members versus board members. Is there a RONR section that supports the timing changes?

Is there some rule in your organization that says your board can't continue to meet as long as it wants? There's no rule in RONR that says it can't. If you do have a rule that sets the time to adjourn, you can to suspend that rule by a two thirds vote and keep going as long as the assembly wants to.
