_joshua Posted April 25, 2015 at 11:57 PM Report Share Posted April 25, 2015 at 11:57 PM I've searched but can't find a straight forward answer. Is a motion required to accept absentee ballots during the meeting so they can be counted?
Edgar Guest Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:00 AM Report Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:00 AM Absentee voting is prohibited unless your bylaws permit it (or some superior rule or law requires it). A simple motion won't do.
_joshua Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:02 AM Author Report Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:02 AM The bylaws specifically allow absentee voting. Those ballots have been collected. Is a motion needed to accept these ballots during the meeting?
Edgar Guest Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:04 AM Report Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:04 AM Is a motion needed to accept these ballots during the meeting? Why do you think such a motion would be necessary? What if such a motion was defeated?
Gary Novosielski Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:06 AM Report Share Posted April 26, 2015 at 12:06 AM No. Rejecting such a motion would deprive voters of their right to vote, which isn't allowed, even on a unanimous vote.

That makes sense. In reviewing previous years minutes, the absentee ballots were accepted by motion and voice vote which didn't make sense to me but your answer does.
