Guest MB Posted June 6, 2015 at 06:16 PM Report Share Posted June 6, 2015 at 06:16 PM Our current bylaws state that an officer can only serve three years in a position. We wish to allow the current president to serve another year (4th) as we his leadership and continuity right now. We thought about"suspending" the bylaw - but I read on forum that we cannot do that. Is there any way to do without changing the bylaws and then changing them back again next year?
Edgar Guest Posted June 6, 2015 at 06:17 PM Report Share Posted June 6, 2015 at 06:17 PM If your bylaws say that he serves until a successor is elected I suppose you could refuse to elect a successor. But I don't recommend it. Why not change the bylaws? And if you do, why would you change them back?
Gary Novosielski Posted June 12, 2015 at 03:11 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 at 03:11 PM Is there any way to do without changing the bylaws and then changing them back again next year? No. Refusing to elect a successor also violates the bylaws, so if you're not going to follow the bylaws, there is no point in asking the question in the first place. ____________________Edited to add: But, on second thought there is another way. Change the bylaws, and then do not change them back again next year.
