Guest Tim Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:22 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:22 PM Are Hawaii HOAs required to follow rules of the Sunshine law? In particular, I'm wondering about advance notification of the meeting needs to be sent out and if a member being disciplined has the right to request the meeting be moved to an open session. Thanks! Chris Harrison Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:56 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:56 PM You will need to ask a lawyer as legal questions are beyond this forum's scope.
Edgar Guest Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:56 PM Report Share Posted June 12, 2015 at 08:56 PM You might want to ask a Hawaiian lawyer. And there's no one "sunshine law". There are probably at least 50 sunshine laws.

Guest Timothy Warner Posted June 13, 2015 at 01:45 PM Report Share Posted June 13, 2015 at 01:45 PM Just to close out this topic, I did check with a staff attorney for the State of Hawaii and received the following message: "The Sunshine Law, Part I of chapter 92, Hawaii Revised Statutes, only applies to boards and commissions that are part of Hawaii State or county government. This includes boards such as the State Ethics Commission and the Honolulu City Council. It does not apply to homeowner associations or other nongovernmental boards." Thank you all for your help. I have found this forum to be very useful on several occasions...
