Guest karen lewin Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:21 PM Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:21 PM If a motion was made and seconded but a vote was not taken due to the presider not calling for the vote can the person who originally seconded the motion withdraw his second? Edgar Guest Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:23 PM Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:23 PM No. There may be nothing more immaterial than the seconding of a motion. But why didn't the presider call for the vote?
Transpower Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:33 PM Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 at 10:33 PM Did the chair state the motion after it was seconded and then ask for debate, or not?
Guest karen lewin Posted July 2, 2015 at 11:32 PM Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 at 11:32 PM The presider was misled by the Secretary and obviously not following Robert's Rules correctly -- The Chair did not ask for debate as the Secretary had stated no discussion or vote was to be taken (referring to a previous motion but at the wrong time). At the next meeting under old business can a debate, vote be called for on the motion?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted July 3, 2015 at 12:28 AM Report Share Posted July 3, 2015 at 12:28 AM I suppose if nothing was done with the motion, then nothing was done with it and it could be made again at the next meeting under New Business.
