Guest Guest Posted July 15, 2015 at 03:12 PM Report Share Posted July 15, 2015 at 03:12 PM our board voted to accept a bid for services. The motion was seconded and vote was taken. immediately following the vote, the board decided to amend the original motion to include a time frame and warrant. what is the proper procedure for this? and should there be a third motion to accept the original motion with the amendment? Richard Brown Posted July 15, 2015 at 03:14 PM Report Share Posted July 15, 2015 at 03:14 PM The proper method of amending the motion previously adopted is by means of a "motion to amend something previously adopted". It requires only a majority vote if previous notice of the motion is given. If it is moved without previous notice, it requires a two thirds vote or the vote of a majority of the entire membership for adoption. Edited to add: Since you were still in the same meeting, a member who voted on the prevailing side of the original motion could have moved to "Reconsider the vote on the motion to accept the proposal". It would require a majority vote to adopt the motion to reconsider, which then brings the original motion back before the assemnbly as if it had never been voted on. It could then be amended and adopted again, in its amended form, by a majority vote.
