Guest John Q. Citizen Posted July 25, 2015 at 07:53 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2015 at 07:53 PM Is it a violation of Robert's Rules of Order for a Board Member (elected official) to leave the dais to go to the restroom without an official recess being called for? Edgar Guest Posted July 25, 2015 at 07:58 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2015 at 07:58 PM Of course not. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go. The only parliamentary wrinkle would be if the departure of one member resulted in the loss of a quorum. And there's no dais in RONR-Land. There's a "table", and a "floor", and a "chair", but they're not always what they appear to be.

When I saw you had replied I immediately worried that the word "dais" did, indeed, appear in RONR. Lacking the searchable CD-ROM I should know better than to ever say that a particular word never makes an appearance. I've been burned before so I'm glad I dodged the bullet on this one. Edgar Guest Posted July 27, 2015 at 06:22 PM Report Share Posted July 27, 2015 at 06:22 PM By way of atonement I suppose I should say to Mr. Citizen (the OP) that an experienced chair (see pp.454-456), noticing a member squirming in his seat, might suggest a five-minute recess.
