Guest Willie Watson Posted July 25, 2015 at 08:17 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2015 at 08:17 PM I would appreciate your expert opinion on the following parliamentary question: My understanding is that it is a basic principle of parliamentary law that all members (whose rights have not been suspended via disciplinary action) have equal rights, privileges, and obligations. Can a deliberative assembly then insert in its Bylaws that only former presidents of the assembly can served on its Nominations committee?

The bylaws can say whatever the body that's authorized to amend the bylaws wants them to say.
Gary Novosielski Posted July 25, 2015 at 08:34 PM Report Share Posted July 25, 2015 at 08:34 PM As long as the rules for amending the bylaws are followed, that could certainly be inserted. That doesn't make it a good idea, of course. What happens if all the former presidents have died, or moved to Florida?* __________*a distinction without a diference
