appointing chair of nominating committee

Current Bylaws state that the President names the Chair of the Nominating Committee. The other Nominating Committee members are not named by the President but are specified and selected from the various arms of the organization.

If the President were not to name the Chair of the Nominating Committee, for instance if we amend our Bylaws, who would name the Chair?

How about the general membership?

Or the general membership could appoint the members of the nominating committee and then the committee members would elect a chair.

See the sample bylaws in RONR (p.585, ll.16-22).

That will be up to the society to determine when it amends the bylaws. RONR suggests that the nominating committee should be elected by the membership, or by the board if this is impractical. Since you already have your own system for selecting the other members, however, I like Edgar's suggestion of having the committee elect its own chair.
