Guest intrmom Posted October 5, 2015 at 09:42 PM Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 at 09:42 PM Our Board President is proposing that an email vote be taken on a proposed rules change at our meeting tomorrow. No where are email votes permitted in our Rules and Regulations or By Laws. How can I stop this action since it is clearly not permitted?
Edgar Guest Posted October 5, 2015 at 09:59 PM Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 at 09:59 PM Well, you don't have to stop it since the results of an illegal vote are null and void. But you might want to point this out to your president before the meeting. If that fails, raise a point of order at the meeting.
Rev Ed Posted October 5, 2015 at 10:08 PM Report Share Posted October 5, 2015 at 10:08 PM The organization can only do an e-mail vote if the By-laws or rules specifically allow for it. Although, there is nothing wrong with the organization using an e-mail vote as an informal poll to see how much interest there is in a proposal. Gary Novosielski Posted October 6, 2015 at 04:00 AM Report Share Posted October 6, 2015 at 04:00 AM Wouldn't that be a straw vote?
jstackpo Posted October 6, 2015 at 10:10 AM Report Share Posted October 6, 2015 at 10:10 AM Naah, there's no meeting going on so no "straw vote". It is just a public opinion poll.

As long as its is a public opinion poll, there is nothing wrong with it.
