Guest Roger Posted March 22, 2016 at 10:48 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2016 at 10:48 PM If not otherwise stated in the By Laws, is the Board Chair allowed to serve as a member of a Committee struck to select a new Board Member?
Kim Goldsworthy Posted March 22, 2016 at 11:35 PM Report Share Posted March 22, 2016 at 11:35 PM Yes. There is no such prohibition in Robert's Rules of Order. A chair may sit on any committee, except that Robert's Rules has a warning, but not a prohibition, about a nominating committee. So, despite the warning, no parliamentary rule will stop a "board chair" (your term) from sitting on any other body.

Joshua Katz Posted March 23, 2016 at 12:08 AM Report Share Posted March 23, 2016 at 12:08 AM However, if the other body is a human body, then there are parliamentary rules related to decorum stopping the board chair from sitting on that body during a meeting. Usually it's the body that sits on the chair.
