Guest tpeddler Posted May 2, 2016 at 04:06 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2016 at 04:06 PM Several meetings ago the board decided not to purchase some new equipment for the building until the money required for that item had been raised by the various clubs and paid for in 1/3 payments. Since then, a member or the board went against this and ordered the equipment. As treasurer, I am afraid that I cannot sign a check for this equipment as it violates RRO. Also, I believe there may be some justification for censure of the offending member. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Guest Posted May 2, 2016 at 05:50 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2016 at 05:50 PM Thank you for the advice. Hate to do that to a member but its just anarchy if we let it happen. I would hope the Chair would instruct receiving to also not accept the delivery.
Richard Brown Posted May 2, 2016 at 06:00 PM Report Share Posted May 2, 2016 at 06:00 PM The board, if it so desires, can specifically authorize the purchase of the equipment and/or authorize you to sign the check. Was a motion adopted stating specifically that the equipment would not be purchased until certain funds were raised, or was that just the majority opinion as you understand it? Usually a motion is made to purchase something, then, after debate and possible amendments, it is either approved or rejected. Rejection is not the same thing as the adoption of a motion to delay purchase until certain conditions are met.

My thought is that it is not correct to say that you "cannot sign a check for this equipment as it violates RRO."
