Guest S.L.Morris Posted January 6, 2017 at 05:13 AM Report Share Posted January 6, 2017 at 05:13 AM Is it appropriate to conduct a survey via email before a meeting about a particular topic that will be an item of discussion not covered in the bylaws. The item involves particulars of meeting time, place, and refreshments.
Richard Brown Posted January 6, 2017 at 05:18 AM Report Share Posted January 6, 2017 at 05:18 AM RONR prohibits straw polls during a meeting, but there is no prohibition against officers or members surveying members outside of a meeting. Well, the results could be used as part of a member's argument during debate, such as a member saying, "I surveyed our membership prior to tonight's meeting and 75 percent of them said they are opposed to this motion". I suppose that depends on the length and complexity of the results the member wishes to share. He may or may not need to read from papers in debate.
