blk28 Posted February 16, 2017 at 03:49 AM Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 at 03:49 AM Can an organization's executive board vote in 2 co-chairmen of a standing committee? The bylaws say there will be "a chairman" of each standing committee. ----Note: I don't see how 2 people could preside, but that's not the initial question. Gary Novosielski Posted February 16, 2017 at 03:55 AM Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 at 03:55 AM No. A chairman means one chairman. Co-anythings would have to be provided for in your bylaws, and in my view would be a grave mistake.

No. You cannot elect a committee to a single office or single position. You can have rotating chairmenships. You can have a chair and vice-chair. You can have deputy chairs. But you cannot have two or three or four co-equal people for a single position. If you were to do such a thing, it is undefined as far as Robert's Rules goes. No one will know who has the authority to (a.) call meetings: (b.) run the meeting; (c.) present the committee report; etc.
Richard Brown Posted February 16, 2017 at 04:37 PM Report Share Posted February 16, 2017 at 04:37 PM In addition to the previous comments, RONR strongly discourages having co-chairmen or co-anythings.
