Guest Cameron Chase Posted February 24, 2017 at 02:54 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 02:54 PM Our current President, during our Unit meeting, slid a piece of paper to her second vice requesting that she read the page. On the page was our President's formal request for our Unit to "endorse" her for Department. She asked, verbally for support, a few said yes, many stayed quiet not supporting her but also not wanting to say no. As President should she not have excused herself from the room, or better requested secret ballot? Several officers were absent from the meeting and would like to know if it is possible to get the "endorsement" overturned.
Hieu H. Huynh Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:02 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:02 PM Generally, an adopted motion could be rescinded.
Cameron Chase Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:22 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:22 PM Can you call up the motion to Reconsider, which has been previously moved at a previous meeting?
Hieu H. Huynh Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:28 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:28 PM That's possible, although more details about the circumstances would be helpful.
Hieu H. Huynh Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:31 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:31 PM Also in this case, it would have been appropriate for the first vice president to preside during consideration of the motion to endorse the president. The president could remain in the room during its consideration.
Cameron Chase Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:39 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 03:39 PM I am the first VP, my father had died the night before so i was unable to attend the meeting the treasurer was also absent due to illness. The 2nd VP, who has attended two meetings, sat in my place. There was no discussion or consideration, just the request for endorsement. George Mervosh Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:00 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:00 PM (edited) So there was a vote and the motion was adopted, correct? Afterwards, a member who voted on the prevailing side moved to reconsider the vote (during that same meeting), but it wasn't taken up at that time, correct? How long is it between your meetings? Cameron Chase Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:10 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:10 PM After the meeting had adjourned I was told of the vote. It was not moved to reconsider the vote during the meeting. It has now been three weeks since the meeting, our next meeting is Thursday and I am wondering if the vote can be reconsidered or if too much time has passed. Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:16 PM Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 at 05:16 PM It is too late to reconsider the vote. But you can move to rescind the endorsement, which requires a majority vote with previous notice or a two-thirds vote without, or a vote of the majority of the Unit membership.
