Guest JeanK Posted May 6, 2017 at 08:39 PM Report Share Posted May 6, 2017 at 08:39 PM Is an agenda meeting required or can an agenda be compiled by calling members of the board for submissions?
jstackpo Posted May 6, 2017 at 09:03 PM Report Share Posted May 6, 2017 at 09:03 PM Not required at all, per RONR. See p. 25, 371. But it is a good idea for the presiding officer to have a clear idea what's coming up (a "private" agenda, so to speak) so he/she can run things efficiently and look good in the process. Guest Jean, I agree with Dr. Stackpole. However, your question sounds suspiciously like you are referring to a public body. If so, look first to the rules of that body and to any applicable state law. It is quite common for public bodies such as city councils to have what is called an "agenda meeting" to discuss and/or determine what will be on the agenda. As Dr. Stackpole pointed out, such a meeting is not required (or even mentioned) in RONR. But, your organization has great latitude in adopting its own rules regarding how the agenda is prepared.
