Guest Jeremy Stevens Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:15 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:15 PM We recently had a board meeting were the president nominated a candidate to fill a vacancy. There was a motion, discussion and then a vote took place. Motion passed a with candidate being named to fill new position. Later that night, opposing party asked for a re-vote. Is that allowed? Bruce Lages Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:23 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:23 PM In most cases, no, it would not be allowed. But, we really need to know the reason for asking for a re-vote before we can give you a definitive answer.
Guest Jeremy Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:43 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2017 at 07:43 PM Member was previously suspended from board 2 years ago, however, bylaws allow for reinstatement.
Bruce Lages Posted September 15, 2017 at 08:13 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2017 at 08:13 PM If that's the only issue raised, I don't see any way that a re-vote would be valid. Not that it changes anything, but was this previous suspension not known before the vote was taken? The time to raise an objection to the candidate was during the nomination process - nominations are debatable.
Guest Jeremy Posted September 15, 2017 at 08:20 PM Report Share Posted September 15, 2017 at 08:20 PM Yes the suspension was mentioned during discussion. Obviously not all the details of the suspension but the entire board was made aware of members suspension.
