Good day! My question is this. At a special meeting for a bylaw change, can an alternate for the BOD replace an absent member of the BOD for the purpose of obtaining a quorum?

I agree with Mr. Huynh's answer and urge you to check your bylaws.  It is unusual to have alternates for board members.  In my experience, when there are alternates, the alternates are generally allowed to take the place of absent regular members.  That is generally the purpose of having alternates.  The answer to your question will have to be found in your own bylaws.
