We had a case were a person, present at a meeting, did not wish to vote on a topic, so instead allowed their alternate to vote on that one issue only rather than abstaining.

Where would I look to find if this is a viable option or not?

Thank you!

But if this meeting was a convention of delegates, the substitution of an alternate for a delegate for a single vote is not proper - RONR, page 605, lines 10ff.

As usual, "unless a rule of the body permits this procedure".

Do your bylaws include such a rule?
