executive session

During our last co-op meeting the question arose, do we need a motion to move into executive session and a motion to leave executive session.

we had a difference of opinion.  Which is correct?

Also entertaining a motion and a vote while in executive session, again a difference of opinion. Which is correct?

Absent a contrary provision in your own rules, it requires a motion to go into executive session and another motion to end the executive session.... unless the assembly simply adjourns at the conclusion of the executive session.  Both motions can be adopted by a majority vote, but are often done by unanimous consent without objection.

Motions can be made and adopted while in executive session unless you have a contrary provision in your own rules.  However, if this is a public body, such as a public school board, it will likely be subject to your state's open meetings laws which often prohibit taking votes while in executive session.

The assembly could also specify in the motion to enter executive session the conditions when the executive session will end.
