Guest Bud T Posted June 4, 2018 at 02:44 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2018 at 02:44 PM Our club President and Secretary stepped down. Regular elections are not for another year and a half. The Vice President claims that, according to Robert's Rules, this automatically makes him the President. is this true?
Guest Student Posted June 4, 2018 at 02:54 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2018 at 02:54 PM Yes, according to RONR, "in case of the resignation or death of the president, the vice-president ... automatically becomes president for the unexpired term, unless the bylaws expressly provide otherwise for filling a vacancy in the office of president." (Page 458, lines 8-13). I omitted language about the case where there is more than one VP.

I agree, but would the slight caveat that the resignations must be accepted before they are effective (it is not clear that this has yet been done).
