Byron Baxter Posted March 29, 2019 at 10:37 AM Report Share Posted March 29, 2019 at 10:37 AM Could you please refer me to the proper pages in RONR for consent agenda. This is being proposed for a non profit board who has adopted RONR. RONR addresses consent calendar, but that seems to apply to conventions. The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure addresses consent agenda on pages 220-221, but the board's parliamentary authority is RONR. The National Council of Nonprofits recommends consent agenda and publishes a three page document of explanation, but has no authority over the board. Thanks in advance. Benjamin Geiger Posted March 29, 2019 at 11:29 AM Report Share Posted March 29, 2019 at 11:29 AM If by "consent agenda" you mean the same thing as "consent calendar" (a series of motions to be adopted collectively and typically by unanimous consent), it's on pages 361-362. A “consent calendar” is the same thing as a consent agenda and is discussed in RONR, 11th ed., pg. 361. Its use is not limited to conventions. I’m not sure why you thought it was, since the first sentence of the paragraph lists several types of assemblies, and a convention is not one of them. ”Legislatures, city, town, or county councils, or other assemblies which have a heavy work load including a large number of routine or noncontroversial matters may find a consent calendar a useful tool for disposing of such items of business.” (RONR, 11th ed., pg. 361) Edited March 29, 2019 at 12:31 PM by Josh Martin
Atul Kapur Posted March 29, 2019 at 05:00 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2019 at 05:00 PM If your organization wishes to incorporate more detailed processes or rules (whether from AIPSC or the National Council or your own specific version) then the organization is free to adopt Special Rules of Order. Transpower Posted March 30, 2019 at 06:41 PM Report Share Posted March 30, 2019 at 06:41 PM As an aside, my first encounter with a consent calendar was at a meeting of the Bucks County PA Commissioners. It drastically speeds up business, so I definitely recommend its use wherever possible.
